Back to gig life

So Big FRED and I did a duo gig last night. Couldn’t pull a drummer in so we did what we could. This was only my 4th gig since January or February of 2020. Pandemic life really just wiped out the calendar, and any desire to get right back in to it.

One of the crazy things about what we do is that as long as we stay sharp and keep our minds right, we can get back into the groove very easily. Like no time has passed, no 18 month breaks, no lapses in musical expression and creativity. We cruised through an hour’s worth of what we consider our standards. Our “book” consists of Radiohead, Bjork, and of course our own music and explorations.

It was great to get back out in the wild and create sound for people. I don’t want to say make music, or play for people, that’s not what we do. We. Make. Sound.

Sometimes that sound can take you somewhere, or make you feel something. If we can do that to you, or for you, we’ve succeeded with these instruments we love so much.

Before we started, I did my intro speech and let everybody know we’d be going on a journey. We were trying to get to outer space. When we were done, someone came up to me and wanted to share something. She said that the music made her feel so good that she felt like there was a light beaming out of her body. Well shit, fuck, damn my dude, mission motherfucking accomplished.
